Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never heard of it often think it is a separate island facing west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to pursue a career as an actress but after a sudden growth spurt her partners could no longer dance along with her. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school which led her in the right direction. Her teacher advised her to audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
